Review:
An acceptable product once you get the installation kinks worked out, which will probably require at least one call to customer support if you're using Windows 2000. Here's a hint: when you first install it, wait 15 minutes for the computer to calm down and stop hanging, then call tech support to find out the addresses to set the DMA channel to. Once installed and working, it makes access to the SmartMedia card as fast as if the files were on your harddrive, which makes copying, editing and deleting them that much easier. Simply pop the SmartMedia card into the adapter, and a new "removable" drive appears in your explorer. What could be easier?
Update Feb-26-2002:
Finally got sick of this stupid card corrupting the SmartMedia card, and took revenge on it. While Simple Technology blames the camera, this does not make sense because it's happened when the card has not been in the camera (i.e. it was in the adapter and I removed the adapter and reinserted it, and the card was corrupted). After you loose a few pictures that you can't retake, you eventually decide it's not worth it to use a cheap product. Worse yet, it corrupts the card in a way that Simple Technology says it's impossible to do. Once it gets corrupted that bad, you can't reformat it because the media identifier is corrupt. Luckily, I also have a USB SmartMedia SanDisk ImageMate reader that allows me to rewrite the identifier and make the card work again. SImple Technology told me I would need to buy a new card! I can't recommend products by this company.
